MANILA, Philippines — The Chinese Embassy in the Philippines said it was “deeply shocked and concerned” after a United States Embassy personnel refused to have a photo of his passport taken during a traffic stop supposedly for fear it would be sent to “Chinese spies.”
The Department of Transportation Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (DOTr SAICT) reported catching the US personnel’s vehicle along the Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (Edsa) busway on Friday.
Article continues after this advertisement“We have noted reports of the incident and are deeply shocked and concerned about the relevant baseless accusations against China and the so-called ‘Chinese spy’ narrative,” the Chinese Embassy said in a statement on Saturday.
